Glossary

  • Attainment - This is the measure of a pupil's ability in comparison to a national standard.
  • Progress - This is the measure of a pupil's achievement compared to their starting point.
  • Combined - The measure of pupils achieving the expected standard in all 3 of: Mathematics, reading and writing.
  • Expected Standard - The standard, set out by the UK government, outlining where a child should be academically for their age.
  • Good Level of Development (GLD) - A measure used in early years teaching (Reception) to check a child's progress against a number of set criteria.
  • Phonics Screening - A check done at the end of Year 1 to assess your child's phonics attainment. Pupils can retake this screening at the end of Year 2 if further support is needed.
