Year 5 Teacher

My journey into teaching began during my time at university, when I used my free time in the summer holidays to volunteer at various local schools. Upon leaving university in 2012 I took my first steps into a professional career by becoming a learning support assistant, supporting children with special educational needs.

The following year I became a graduate teaching assistant, and made similar progression 12 months later to become a trainee teacher. I learnt much during this time, and enjoyed working across two Key Stages before starting as a newly qualified teacher in 2015.

I took on more and more responsibility over the next few years before deciding on changing job to become a maths leader. My reasoning for wanting this role relates to my own experiences at school, when I struggled with the subject. The approach to maths teaching was very different to how it is nowadays, and I want to ensure all children learn to love the subject and fulfil their potential.

I decided to join Magna Carta as I wanted to be part of a growing school, and I take real delight in being the first Key Stage 2 teacher the school has ever had.
