Pupils take on catering roles
Posted: 23rd October 2019Kitchen staff are looking younger these days.
Pupils at Magna Carta Primary Academy are applying to take on roles on the catering team at their school.
As part of the school’s mission to inspire aspirations and a love of enterprise, pupils are being recruited to take on paid jobs. Pupils will be paid in books.
Job descriptions have been drawn up and pupils invited to make formal applications, with plans to extend the project to include other roles in future.
Headteacher Marios Solomonides said: “I am very happy with our lunchtime routine in terms of the environment; with children eating at tables in groups, while listening to music. It’s a lovely place to be.
“I want to move to a situation where children take responsibility and become part of the process, whether that’s helping others to choose from the salad bar, or pouring water for the younger pupils and encouraging them to drink, or helping to clear away and being in charge of that.
“Enterprise and aspirations are curriculum drivers for us. We want children to aspire to different careers and to understand you have to put in the effort to get the things you want. We teach this through lessons such as maths, science and computing; but this really brings the curriculum to life for our children and gives them a taste of the big wide world.”
