Pollution the focus for Science Week

Pollution the focus for Science Week

Posted: 25th March 2019

The effect of pollution on animals and their habitats was the subject of an investigation by young scientists.

Pupils at Magna Carta Primary Academy celebrated British Science Week by looking at pollution in water.

The experiment linked to their work on endangered animals and lead to discussions on endangered animals and how pollution contributes to their decline.

They took water from a park area and a busy road area and tested to see which was more polluted.

Headteacher Marios Solomonides said: “Our curriculum is driven by developing knowledge of the world, encouraging enterprise and aspiration, investigation and enquiry and having a local, national and global perspective. Each one of these drivers can be found in the learning resulting from this experiment.”

Sonia Ahmed, director of science for the BMAT group of schools, is creating a modern new science curriculum to inspire young pupils to develop a love of science. She said: “We want children to enjoy science and to give it a bit more profile. We spent the week making science fun and forgetting targets and tests for the moment. The children have loved it.”
