Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Magna Carta, our pupils and staff have equal opportunities. We also strive for equity. This is why we cannot say that everyone is treated in exactly the same way, because if we did, it would put some pupils at a disadvantage.
We teach to the top, which means we have high expectations of everyone. This doesn’t mean we give all pupils exactly the same learning tasks as each other and let them be.
It means we scaffold learning so pupils who would otherwise be given a differentiated task, can achieve the task that the ‘perceived’ more able pupils can achieve.
If a pupil has special educational needs which prevent them from accessing the learning, we make reasonable adjustments and put in support to enable them to achieve the very best they can achieve.
Below you will find our SEND policy and Information Report. The Information Report is a long document, which we do encourage visitors to the website to read. However, there is also a summary document that gives the key information at a glance.
There is also a guide for parents and carers from Essex Educational Psychology Service. If we make a referral to this service, we require parental consent (the form is also below for your information).
Do you have concerns about your child’s education that you’d like to talk through with an Educational Psychologist? Call the Parent Helpline 01245 433293 Mondays 9am – 12pm. The helpline is for carers and parents of children and young people up to the age of 19 with concerns about their children’s education or development. You will talk to a qualified Educational Psychologist who will listen to your concerns and work with you to find a positive way forward.
