Runners raise vital funds for charity
Posted: 19th July 2021Youngsters got on their running shoes in support of a good cause.
Pupils at Magna Carta Primary Academy held their own Race for Life to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
They completed laps of the school field, choosing to take on the 2km, 3km or 5km challenge.
Jen Pearce, head of school, said: “What a fantastic day we had!
“The course was undulating, with enough challenge to keep the children motivated and determined to meet the targets they were set. Some children surpassed the 5km target, going on to run about 8.5km! What a fantastic achievement!
“The children showed determination and resilience, supporting each other well. They were justifiably proud of their well-deserved medals at the end.
“For many children, this was the first big competitive event they had taken part in since the first lockdown and for many of our younger children it was also the first medal they had achieved.
“The smiles of joy and excitement were such a pleasure to see and confirmed again what we know to be true; how important sport and physical activity is for a child’s development, physically, socially and emotionally.”
The school raised more than £500 for Cancer Research UK on the day.
